WHY Centre Sings?
Centre Sings to raise the funds needed to assist the families who are being displaced when mobile home parks close and fires destroy their memories. Since December of 2012 IHS has raised and distributed nearly $40,000 for families in Centre County who have lost their homes. Another park is closing. More families need help.
Centre Sings to provide low-income families with a supply of home heating fuel to keep them safe and warm during the winter. Since January 2014 the Centre County Fuel Bank has paid over $85,000 to purchase home heating products (oil, wood, coal and propane).
Centre Sings to provide the money to run the Free Furniture and Appliance Recycling Program that distributes hundreds of pieces of FREE furniture and major electric appliances to families so they don't have to use their limited income to purchase these needed household items.
Centre Sings to provide the staff and expertise to guide, educate and assist individuals as they seek to manage their monthly expenses. IHS provides over 600 months (collectively) of service and support to keep families stable and on track to pay their bills and learn to save. IHS receives referrals from numerous County Agencies, other nonprofit organizations, congregations and individuals. We also offer budgeting classes to inmates prior to their release.
Centre Sings to support the emergency financial needs of our residents such as rental assistance money when a family faces eviction and assistance to pay for unexpected prescriptions. IHS raised $14,000 of a $20,000 goal during the 2013 Wishing Well Bell Ringing Campaign during the winter holiday season. Although donors were generous, the needs of Centre County are great.
